No sooner the
Board exam is over than the students start revelling in fun and frolics. And before
the euphoria settles down, the tension returns-the tension of the exam result
coupled with entrance test and getting admission. No exaggeration meant, the
students and parents whose goal is for a professional course are passing
through an ordeal. Getting though the maze of admission process is quite
tedious. Anyway, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going”. However,
with commercialisation of higher education and increasing varieties of courses,
the situation is softening.
The 12th
Science stream has two branches, rather, popularly two groups: Group A called
Engineering (having PCM subjects) and Group B called Biology (having PCB
subjects).
The most
popular Courses available to the Group A students who fulfils the criteria are
as under:
B. E. /B Tech Degree Courses (Duration 4 years):
(Though the curriculum of B.E. and B.Tech. for a particular discipline
is similar but the pedagogy (teaching method) is different. Generally, the
colleges under a University offers B.E. Degree while the I.I.Ts. offers B.Tech.
Degree.). Some time, the duration of B Tech course will be longer than B E
course.

Changing the track from Science to Commerce:
If the students realize that he is wrongly stuck in Science
stream (due to parents pressure or ill-informed decision), they can take up
courses under Commence stream and can opt for following course:
·
BBA/BBM
·
B Com
There are certain courses / institute offering integrated
courses leading to post graduate degrees. The pathway to post graduate degree
helps the students in various ways.
Generally, while discussing the courses after 12th,
for that matter irrespective of the stream, studying overseas is not discussed.
The topic of studying overseas after 12th is altogether a different
ball game. It merits separate discussion. Here, the allusion is made just to
hint at it so that it can be explored if someone (parent or student) is
interested. For some students (may be limited in numbers) the option for moving
to foreign country for study is not less than “a dream come true”. Now with bank’s
liberal policy for overseas education loan, parent’s financial capacity is not
so much important as the student’s capabilities in English Language are.
Once the Board Exam result (and in some cases, coupled with,
the Entrance Test result) is out, students and parents know where do they stand
and what they can expect. However, the informed can get better choice than the
ignorant and ill-informed. Leveraging the information for meaningful decision
is the crux of choosing an appropriate course for better career.
